Toastmasters host speech and evaluation contest

Odette Toastmasters club recently held its own International Speech and Evaluation Contests. Both were well attended and our members and guests enjoyed the interesting and exciting contest environment.

The Evaluation Contest required members to provide a 2-3 minute evaluation of a target speaker. Our target speaker was Kit McCann from Tecumseh Area Toastmasters who was given excellent feedback on how his presentation could be improved. Giving high quality evaluations is a vital part of the Toastmasters program. Developing organized 2-3 minute evaluations allow our members to work on their listening, critical thinking and communication skills. These thoughtful and constructive evaluations allow speakers a feedback loop that is essential to improving their skills.

The International Speech contest required members to deliver prepared speeches of 5 to 7 minutes.  The speeches were judged based on how meaningful the message and the impact of the delivery.

Congratulations to all Toastmasters who participated. The Division I contests will be held on Friday, April 19th at Giovanni Caboto Club, doors open at 6:00pm and the contest starts at 7:00pm. All are welcome to attend this exciting competition that showcases some of the best Toastmasters in the Windsor area.
